Bills' safety not cleared to fly back to Buffalo after Chiefs game due to rib injury
The Buffalo Bills put on a show as they fought Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Kansas City during a highly anticipated week 6 duel.
Josh Allen threw for 329 yards with three passing touchdowns on the way to a 24-20 Buffalo win. The team's defense was also able to tally two interceptions against Patrick Mahomes, including a game sealing pick by cornerback Taron Johnson.
Not everything ended well for the Bills, though.
Jordan Poyer, Buffalo's All-Pro safety, was forced to take part in a 16-hour drive from Kansas City to Buffalo after he remained unclear to fly due to a rib injury. Poyer hired a car service to get to Kansas City, then used the car service to return home after the game concluded.
Per The Athletic's Tim Graham, Poyer was unable to fly due to a still-healing pneumothorax (collapsed lung) from an injury two weeks ago. According to Chris Mortenson, doctors weren't comfortable with how air pressure from flying might affect the 31-year-old's rib injury.
Buffalo's next away game takes place on November 6th. This gives Poyer's rib plenty of time to heal, allowing him to be medically cleared for flight in the future.
For now, he will rest as the team enters their bye week.
Jordan Poyer is enjoying a fantastic season with the Bills despite rib injury
Buffalo's All-Pro safety is off to an incredible start to the season.
Poyer has allowed an 86.8 opposing quarterback rating when targeted, breaking up six passes and adding an additional league-leading four interceptions to the stat sheet through only four contests.
Coverage isn't the only area where Poyer has made his money, either. Pro Football Focus has given the defensive back an impressive grade of 76.6 when defending the run.
We may be looking at back-to-back All-Pro selections if his spectacular play continues.
