Brandin Cooks’ acquisition can put Dallas Cowboys on top in NFC, claims Dan Orlovsky

The Dallas Cowboys recently acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans in exchange for a fifth-round pick. The move is being lauded by many as a player like Cooks was required by the Cowboys.

While many supporters wanted the team to trade for DeAndre Hopkins, Jerry Jones chose the less expensive option and acquired the player that best fits their scheme.

After the trade, former Detroit Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky claimed that the trade for Cooks was huge and could help the Cowboys in separating themselves in the NFC. Here's what Orlovsky said on First Take:

“This dude gets 1,000 yards no matter the offense that he plays in… and you're like, no, it's not a big deal. They've had a really good offseason and you can make the case it's the best offseason in the NFC East.
"Keeping Dan Quinn… moving on from Ezekiel Elliott, now adding Gilmore and Brandin Cooks… I think this is a huge deal. It makes me think that Dallas has got more on deck going into the draft here in about four or five weeks.
"We're talking about a receiver that now allows CeeDee Lamb to play the ideal role. This is a very good and very big deal for the Dallas Cowboys.”

Brandin Cooks is one of the most underrated receivers in the league, but he will get enough exposure in Dallas. Hopefully, he will be able to make it count, as the former Texans receiver needs to be at his best next season.

The Dallas Cowboys knew they would lose Dalton Schultz in free agency, and he was a huge part of their offense. He later signed with the Houston Texans, but the Cowboys did well in bringing Cooks to fill his void.

Last season, CeeDee Lamb made a significant leap and lived up to the hype as the Dallas Cowboys' WR1. However, no other receiver came forward to help him, forcing the team to rely on its running game.

The arrival of Cooks will greatly benefit Lamb since he will be able to garner less attention from opposing defenses. Hopefully, Dak Prescott can perform well because everything now relies on him.

Last season, Lamb had 107 catches for 1,359 yards and scored nine touchdowns in 17 games. In comparison, Brandin Cooks had 57 catches for 699 yards and scored three touchdowns in 13 games.
