Brandon Aiyuk rumors: 49ers make bold $30,000,000 offer to keep star receiver in San Fran
As per an anonymous but reliable source, the San Francisco 49ers have offered Brandon Aiyuk a contract extension deal worth $30 million per season.
Aiyuk requested a trade this off-season ater contract talks with the 49ers stalled. He was reportedly seeking a contract worth around $28 million per year. But then, the wide receiver market exploded with multiple receviers signing deals worth more than $30 million per season.
There were a number of teams interested in Aiyuk, with the Steelers, New England Patriots and the Cleveland Browns being the three most keen. At the beginning of the week, it was reported that the Steelers had a trade in place to acquire Aiyuk, if he signed off on the deal.
Today, it was reported that the 49ers have made an offer worth $30 million per season to retain the All-Pro wide receiver. Per X user known as prettyrickey213, who has been a reliable annonymous reporter this off-season, the 49ers offered Aiyuk that deal this morning.
"Sources tell Rickey that the #49ers have made an offer of $30 million per year to Brandon Aiyuk today. It remains to be seen if this new offer sways him from the #Steelers."
The Patriots reportdly offered Aiyuk a deal worth $32 million per season, but he didn't want to play with them with their uncertainty at the quarterback position.
The Browns were rumored to have included wide receiver Amari Cooper in a potential trade for Aiyuk, but that also never fell through. The details about the Steleers' deal to the 49ers haven't been released, but it seems as if Aiyuk is in control of the situation.
San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch said that it's 'urgent' to retain Brandon Aiyuk
No one person may be working harder to land a Brandon Aiyuk extension with the San Francisco 49ers than the team's general manager John Lynch.
On Friday, Lynch spoke on KNBR and said that it's been a longer process than normal to get a deal done with Aiyuk, but feels it is urgent to retain the star wide receiver.
"You know I'm always hopeful. I'm an optimistic person in nature, and I'm always hopeful that we'll get there and get there soon. I can tell you, we feel the urgency to have him, the season's approaching, and we have ample time."
As the days go on, it seems more and more likely that Aiyuk will remain with the 49ers. The NFL season is less than a month away, and Aiyuk ideally would like to have a new deal before then.
Whether it's with the Pittbsurgh Steelers or the San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk should very likely play in Week 1.
