Brandon Aiyuk trade could get two first-round picks to 49ers amid Steelers interest: Report
The Brandon Aiyuk trade and/or contract extension saga has been going on for the entire offseason; however, it might be close to an end with rumors of a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With the Patriots out of the race, the San Francisco 49ers are now focused on completing a deal with the Steelers. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported that there is no verbal agreement as of now; however, any potential deal would not include current Steeler personnel.
Both teams are still hammering out fine details. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Steel City Insider also concurred with this report, and added that the Niners are asking for two first-round picks in exchange for Aiyuk.
On Wednesday, Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin also joked about receiving calls from the West Coast. Many insiders for the Niners and Steelers believe that the deal will be done sooner rather than later.
Nick Wright disagrees with 49ers approach to Brandon Aiyuk
While getting two first-round picks for Brandon Aiyuk would be a great compensation, sports personality Nick Wright believes that will not be the case. He appeared on FS1’s "First Things First" show and delivered some harsh words to the Niners for their handling of the wide receiver’s situation.
“He was their deep threat. He was Purdy's favorite target. And I am shocked at how badly they appear to have botched this because they're not going to get a first-round pick. And whatever pick they get is not going to be on the team this year, because the draft is not until after this year.”
Wright’s opinion stands contrary to what the Niners have asked for, per reports. However, Wright’s assessment that these picks will not help the Niners get the Super Bowl this year is correct.
