BREAKING: New York Jets exploring Derek Carr move with Aaron Rodgers deep in darkness retreat
The New York Jets are wasting no time figuring out who their new quarterback for the 2023 season will be.
Per NFL reporter Mike Garafolo, the Jets are bringing in newly-free agent quarterback Derek Carr for a visit this weekend.
According to Garafolo's tweet, this will be the second team that Carr will visit this offseason.
On Feb. 14, 2023, Carr was released by the Raiders as they were unable to trade him. Before his release, the team tried to trade him and explored options with the Saints.
The Saints were granted permission by the Raiders for a visit and Carr visited them on two separate days last week. Despite some interest, a trade was never facilitated due to contract demands for Carr.
Nevertheless, the Raiders released him a day before he was due $30.4 million in bonus money.
The Jets have been linked to Aaron Rodgers as well, but his future remains up in the air as he's on his darkness retreat to help with his decision.
Rodgers doesn't know if he will retire, return to the Packers for another season, or force a trade out of Green Bay. The Jets will bring in Carr for a visit and won't waste any time evaluating their possible quarterback options for the 2023 season.
The New York Jets could inquire about Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson if they cant't land Derek Carr or Aaron Rodgers
Rumors and trade talks will continue to build as the offseason will be in full effect once the new league year begins on March 15.
The New York Jets are interested in Carr and Rodgers and could possibly inquire about Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. SI's Peter King thinks the team could try to inquire with Jackson if they can't land Rodgers.
King said:
"I think the Jets are going to have a very tough decision on their hands. I think they will go after Rodgers if he does play. And if they don't get him, I think they will uput their sniffers out and seriously consider Lamar Jackson."
It's anyone's guess as to who will line up under center for the New York Jets next season as quarterback.
