Brett Favre draws stark comparison between Donald Trump's organization and Packers at Wisconsin campaign
Brett Favre has been a controversial figure in recent years. A good number of fans will have heard about his ongoing corruption scandal, wherein he has been accused of diverting public funds towards projects that he had personal investment and involvement in.
But he remains a beloved figure in Green Bay. He 16 played seasons for the Packers and guided them to the Super Bowl in 1997.
On Wednesday, the Pro Football Hall of Famer returned to Wisconsin as he appeared at Donald Trump's presidential campaign stop in Ashwaubenon, a southwesterly suburb of Green Bay. When called onto the stage, the former quarterback began:
“I can tell you one thing, I knew I would come back to Green Bay at various times, but I never thought I would come back in this setting. There’s never been a more important time in our lives than right now in this election.”
Brett Favre then proceeded to make football analogies, comparing Trump's campaign to the team where he spent most of his career:
“Much like the Packer organization, Donald Trump and his organization is a winner, and the United States of America won with his leadership. It would be insane to give Kamala four more years in office. So it’s time to bench Kamala and put in the star quarterback, Donald Trump.”
Brett Favre attacks US President Joe Biden for "garbage" comments
Kamala Harris was not the only target of Brett Favre’s ire on Wednesday. Incumbent President Joe Biden also received his fair share of condemnation for calling Trump’s supporters “garbage” on Tuesday when mentioning a comedian who insulted the territory of Puerto Rico while performing at a Republican rally over the weekend:
“I can assure you we’re not garbage. How dare he say that. Looking out, I see police officers, teachers, nurses, grandparents, students. I see everyday Americans that make this country great,” Favre said.
Continuing further, he pointed to inflation, the current drug crisis, and foreign policy as the main reasons why he sided with Trump:
“Families across Wisconsin are struggling to make ends meet. People’s salaries haven’t kept up with inflation. It’s getting harder for younger people to buy their first home… And it’s not just about money. People are losing their lives. Last year, 50 people here in Brown County died of a fentanyl overdose. That’s 50 too many. And our kids face the prospect of World War III.”
This is not Brett Favre’s first time endorsing the former president. He also did so in 2020, citing his stance on freedom of speech, gun rights, and support for the military and police after the murder of George Floyd sparked racial unrest that lasted well over the summer.
