Brett Favre's career stats: Was former Packers star better than Aaron Rodgers?

More than a decade after his retirement, fans are clamoring for Brett Favre's career stats comparisons to Aaron Rodgers. If things keep heading as they are for Rodgers, many assume his career is nearly over as well. This has led many to begin taking stock for both quarterbacks. As it stands, did No. 12 do enough to supplant Brett Favre?

Of course, Brett Favre has set the bar quite high throughout his career. Aside from his lone 1991 season with the Atlanta Falcons and a three-year run (2008-2010) between the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, the quarterback spent the rest of his time with the Green Bay Packers.

In his career, he went 186-112, throwing for 508 touchdowns and 336 interceptions. With the Packers, he went 160-93 in 16 years, throwing for 442 touchdowns and 286 interceptions.

He went to two Super Bowls with the team. In 1996, he won the Lombardi Trophy over the New England Patriots. In 1997, he returned to the big game but fell short to John Elway and the Denver Broncos.

Overall, Favre's career was marked by his gunslinger mentality. In some games, he would throw interceptions incessently. In others, he would light up the statsheet. How do his stats compare to Aaron Rodgers?

At 39 years old, the former understudy to Favre is now almost the former quarterback's age when he retired. If he were to retire tomorrow, here is a look at how his stats compare to Brett Favre's career stats.

Rodgers would have gone 142-71-1, throwing for 462 touchdowns and 97 interceptions. Unlike Favre, the quarterback has spent every season of his career in Green Bay.

Still, in 18 years total and 15 years as a starter, the quarterback has yet to eclipse the long list of Brett Favre's career stats. While Favre won 160 games, Rodgers has won 142. His total number of touchdowns hasn't reached Favre's 508, either. Also, while Favre has reached two Super Bowls, Rodgers has only reached one.

Put simply, unless the quarterback turns it around, he may fall short of several Brett Favre career stats. In other words, it is the fourth quarter of Rodgers' career and he needs a comeback to catch his mentor.

The quarterback is 3-5 through eight games this year and has thrown for 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. If 2022 is his final year, he is on pace to end his career with about 145 wins, 475 touchdowns, and about 100 interceptions. This would be a full season's worth below Brett Favre's career stats many have touted for years.

Will the once-young understudy pass his former mentor in the 11th hour?
