Brian Daboll’s response to Malik Nabers’ comments is just one of several fires facing Giants HC, NFL analyst claims
Before Malik Nabers arrived, Brian Daboll received a round of applause for his work to get the New York Giants to the playoffs in 2022. However, the team is a long way away from those days with Daniel Jones now gone and standing on the precipice of a rebuild.
The first games of a rebuild are often the most frustrating, especially in situations similar to that of the Giants with a mid-year collapse.
Nabers went public with comments that appeared to call out Daboll earlier this week. Daboll has since responded, agreeing that he needed to do a better job in one specific way, via a clip shared by "ProFootballTalk."
Brian Daboll: [00:02:42] "[Nabers] and I talked last night and talked this morning. ... You want to get the ball in his hands and I got to do a better job of getting the ball in his hands early," Daboll said. [00:03:29]
Mike Florio then responded, calling the Nabers dustup just one of "a bunch" of fires for the Giants.
Mike Florio: [00:03:32] "Look, Brian Daboll is putting out a bunch of fires right now. ... The players don't care, and most of them probably can't even begin to comprehend what happened last week and why it happened. ... They just want their best players on the field," he said.
"You're skipping over the backup Drew Lock for Jersey Shore fantasy camp, where you get everybody excited about Tommy DeVito and they're doing this [Italian pinching gesture] and they're spending money and they're buying jerseys," he added. [00:04:36]
At this point, Giants fans have every reason to treat the team like a movie or a television show they would like to see that is in development. They don't need to watch the team go through the steps of filming and putting it together.
They simply will see the product when it's finished. At least, that might be the least frustrating experience as the Giants look to wrap up their 2024 season as fast as possible.
Malik Nabers eyes first touchdown catch since September
Malik Nabers started the year looking like Odell Beckham Jr., but the Giants receiver has failed to hit a similar high since then. In his first four games, he logged three touchdown catches and two games with triple digits in receiving yards.
Since then, however, Nabers hasn't logged a single touchdown catch. He also hasn't earned more than 71 yards in a contest. The wide receiver has been impacted by injury and now a quarterback change.
That said, as arguably the only major foundational piece of the New York Giants roster going forward, the rookie will have plenty of chances to get touchdowns in the future. However, his next opportunity will come on what likely will be the biggest stage of his rookie season.
The game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving and any highlight play will elevate his status much more effectively than during a typical regular season game.
