Brian Flores breaks silence after Tua Tagovailoa's mistreatment claim

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa lashed out at his former head coach, Brian Flores, on "The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz" on Monday. He labeled Flores as a "terrible person" while discussing the differences between Flores and his current coach, Mike McDaniel.

Flores addressed Tagovailoa's comments on Tuesday while speaking to the media.

"I'm genuinely happy for the success Tua's had," Flores said. "I really wish him nothing but the best. Player relationships are important to me. I think that's the foundation of coaching. I got into coaching because I was impacted as a young guy by my high school coach, college coach. ... I wish nothing but the best for Tua, and really more than anything I'm focused on the Vikings, the 2024 Vikings."

Here is Tagovailoa's comment that Flores responded to:

“If you woke up every morning and I told you, ‘You suck at what you did, that you don’t belong doing what you do, that you shouldn’t be here, that this guy should be here, that you haven’t earned this,'” Tagovailoa said. ....
“I don’t care who you are. ... You have a terrible person that’s telling you things that you don’t want to hear or that you probably shouldn’t ever hear, you’re going to start to believe that about yourself, and so that’s sort of like what ended up happening,”

Heading into the 2024 season, Tua Tagovailoa could be without two of his two targets. Wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Tyreek Hill are dealing with injuries.

The team signed Beckham as a free agent this offseason, and he began the season on the physically unable to perform list. On Monday, Mike McDaniel said that Beckham has been progressing but isn't expected to practice this week.

According to reports on Tuesday, Hill is dealing with what's being described as a 'minor' hand injury. He wore a brace during Tuesday's practice and didn't catch balls.

The Dolphins open their season in a few weeks, hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. ET. Hill and Beckham's statuses for Week 1 are unknown.
