Brock Purdy discusses money issue as multiple QBs bag lucrative deals: "That's far down the road"

Brock Purdy is one of the lower-earning quarterbacks in the NFL. However, with QB salaries breaking new ceilings, the 49ers man is set to receive a pay bump. In an interview with CBS during training camp, Purdy was questioned about his upcoming payday. The Niners QB said it was not something he was focused on.

“For me, that’s so far down the road with my situation," said Purdy. "I gotta be present right now, right here at camp. I gotta be better and grow right now so I can be the best I can be for this team this year.
“Obviously, we have a goal at hand and going all the way and winning and finishing it, so that’s where my mindset’s at. To be caught up in the money and all that kind of stuff down the road, I’d be wrong if that’s where my mindset was at, and so it’s not.”

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence inked a five-year deal worth $275 million while Green Bay's Jordan Love signed a four-year extension worth $220 million.

The San Francisco 49ers picked Purdy last in the 2020 NFL draft as "Mr. Irrelevant." He signed a $3.7 million contract for four years. However, it did not take long for him to become a bona fide starter and he is now set to cash in.

Brock Purdy will reset the QB market

The 49ers’ deal with Purdy is one of the most anticipated in the league. ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell predicted this deal would be enough to reset the QB market.

If he continues this level of play”, writes Barnwell. “My best estimate is that a Purdy deal would come in around five years and $325 million, for an average of $65 million per season.”

If this deal comes to fruition, Purdy will become the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL.
