Brock Purdy injury status: Will 49ers QB start against Seahawks?

San Francisco 49ers rookie Brock Purdy has dealt with a range of emotions over the last few days. From his first ever NFL start against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game in which he won 35-7, to now being bitten by the injury bug.

After being in the headlines for his performance against Brady on Sunday, the 49ers quarterback will front up again as both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance are done for the season. Or so we thought.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Purdy is officially listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks due to oblique and rib injuries.

49ers are listing QB Brock Purdy as qustionable for Thursday night’s game vs Seahawks due to his oblique and rib injuries.

As the 49ers are currently in first place in the NFC West with a 9-4 record, the Seahawks are hot behind them at 7-6. For Pete Carroll's team, this is almost a must-win if they have any hope of catching Kyle Shanahan's 49ers for the division title.

If Purdy isn't able to take his place in the lineup, then it will likely be 36-year-old Josh Johnson who will take the reigns. This isn't an ideal situation given what is at stake for the 49ers.

As we have seen, Shanahan has an uncanny ability to plug and play virtually any player and produce superb results.

The rookie, who was taken with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, took a shot to his ribs in the second drive against the Buccaneers. He continued to play on and did well. The quarterback addressed the hit after the game.

Purdy said:

"Yeah it was a hard hit, i'll get some treatment on it and be ready to roll."

That sounds rather positive considering it was right after the game. While listed as questionable, the fact that he was able to play out the game is clearly a good sign. The only doubt is that the 49ers have a quick turnaround from Sunday to Thursday.

Shanahan will be hoping that "Mr. Irrelevant" will be able to suit up and hopefully repeat his heroics from last week against the Seahawks.
