Broncos name senior assistant coach Jerry Rosburg as interim HC to replace Nathaniel Hackett

Nathaniel Hackett's tenure as Denver Broncos head coach is over. Senior assistant coach Jerry Rosburg is taking over for the remainder of the season. Hackett was brought in, along with Russell Wilson, to thrust Denver into Super Bowl contention. But that hasn't happened.

Who is the Super Bowel favorite?

Sitting at a embarrassing 4-11 and fresh off a 51-14 loss to Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams, the Broncos front office decided it was time to move on. With Wilson tied to the team for the next few years, the only change that could be made was with the head coach.

Senior assistant Jerry Rosburg will be the interim head coach for the Broncos per source. Some in the building thought it would maybe be DC Ejiro Evero twitter.com/jamespalmertv/…

Denver's season has been horrible from the first snap of the year. It has only culminated with the team, who many thought were Super Bowl-bound, winning just four games.

The Broncos offense has been one of the worst in the NFL. However, at the same time, they have had one of the best defenses in football. Several times, the Denver defense has kept opponents to under 20 points and even as low as 10 and still lost the game.

Something had to change, and it was Hackett who lost his job.

At the start of the year, many thought Denver was going to be one of the top teams in the NFL. They already had a superb defense. When they added a quarterback of Wilson's caliber, many thought it was a home run.

It has not turned out that way.

Both Wilson and the offense have struggled to get anything going all season. We have seen frustrations boil over several times on the sidelines during games.

With Sean Payton lurking in the background amid a potential return to NFL coaching, could the former New Orleans Saints head coach call Denver home in 2023?

It is a possibility, but the Denver front office needs to hire someone who can bring the best out in Wilson. Getting Payton, who is an offensive wizard, would certainly help.

It is sad that Hackett, who is a first-time head coach. has lost his job, but the NFL is a results business, and Denver has not gotten the right results.
