Bruce Arians says Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan's son Jack was a factor in NFL legend's decision to join Bucs
While covering a game for FOX in September, Tom Brady revealed that he had seriously considered signing with the Chicago Bears when he came out of retirement in 2020. But he put pen to paper and listed out the pros and cons of joining each team, ultimately deciding on signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his second stint in the NFL.
In Tuesday's episode of Scoop City, former Bucs coach Bruce Arians, under whom Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl, listed the factors that played a role in the quarterback choosing the Florida team.
Arians said the Bucs tried as hard to recruit Brady as Brady tried to recruit the Bucs. He said that Brady did his homework and considered all possible factors, which included his son Jack.
"He knew what we were doing, he knew our players. He did the tax codes in Florida. It was on the East Coast, everything kind of fit what he was looking for, you know, easy access back up to see Jack." (16:35 - 16:42)
Jack is Brady's 17-year-old son with ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan. He was born in August 2007; Brady and Moynahan had broken up in late 2006.
In 2020, Moynahan was based in New York while doing her show "Blue Bloods," so by choosing Tampa, Brady would be staying on the East Coast, closer to Jack.
Is Jack into football? Mom said no, while dad, Tom Brady, said yes
While speaking on his podcast "Let's Go!" in 2022, Brady revealed that he enjoyed watching his son play quarterback. He admitted that there weren't many things that he could teach his son, but being a seven-time Super Bowl winner, playing QB was indeed one of the things he could teach.
"I love watching him play quarterback because I think there's very few things in life that I could probably help him with. You know, I don't have a lot of specialties in life other than probably throwing the football. He's just a great kid. But I can definitely help him at quarterback," Brady said.
But in an episode of Live with Kelly and Mark in 2023, Moynahan said that Jack wasn't into football and enjoyed playing lacrosse and basketball more.
She added that neither she nor Tom Brady was going to push either football or acting on Jack and that he was free to choose his calling.
