Bryce Young breaks silence as Panthers bench QB after Week 2
Earlier this week, the Carolina Panthers decided to bench quarterback Bryce Young. The team started 0-2, and after two poor games from the former No. 1 overall pick, they decided to start Andy Dalton in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Many around the league were surprised by Young's benching, leading to speculation about his potential departure from Carolina. Recently, the former Alabama star discussed his benching and took full accountability for his performance on the field (via WCNC's Nick Carboni on X/Twitter):
"For the most part, every snap hit my hands and I didn't do enough with it. At the end of the day, I take accountability for that... So I'm always going to look in the mirror. You know circumstances are what they are for not just me, but for everyone, everyone's dealing with something, and everyone has circumstances."
"If I went out there and played better and we won games at the end of the day... we wouldn't be having this conversation. So, you know right now, I am where I am, and all I can do is try to be better each and every day."
Everyone knows that the situation in which Bryce Young finds himself in Carolina is not favorable to any quarterback in the league. Despite that, he didn't throw anyone under the bus and said that he would try his best to get better every day.
Fans and people around the league believe Young's future lies away from Carolina, and to be fair, it would be better for his career if he gets traded. The Miami Dolphins have been mentioned as a potential suitor for the young quarterback, but according to Panthers head coach Dave Canales, the team is not looking to trade Young.
A look at Bryce Young's NFL career so far
It's no secret that Bryce Young hasn't had a good start to his career in the NFL. In 18 games so far, he has thrown for 3,122 yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while having a passer rating of 70.9.
In the two games he played so far this season, Young has thrown for 245 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions while averaging just 4.4 yards per throw.
In comparison, Young threw for 8,356 yards, 80 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions in 35 games for Alabama.
The franchise believed that new head coach Dave Canales would get the best out of the young quarterback, but so far that has not happened. As a result, perhaps surprisingly for some, decided to bench Young.
It will be interesting to see how Andy Dalton will play in this offense in Week 3, as that will provide a better understanding of whether or not Young is the main problem.
