Bucs WR Chris Godwin and his wife Mariah pledge $50,000 towards Hurricanes Helene & Milton relief: Report
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a season-ending ankle injury during Monday night's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. However, that hasn't stopped him and his wife Mariah from greatly contributing to the Tampa Bay community.
The Tampa Bay area endured the effects of Hurricane Helene and then two weeks later, took a direct hit from Hurricane Milton. Early Tuesday morning, ESPN's Tampa Bay Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine spread the news of the work the Godwins have been doing to help animals impacted by both hurricanes.
Through their 'Team Godwin Foundation', they pledged $50,000 to 'MVP' (Most Vulnerable Pets) to help pets in need. Laine wrote on X that many fans, from both the Buccaneers and Ravens, found out about Godwin's initiative and donated after his injury.
"For those who don’t know, Chris Godwin and his wife Mariah just pledged $50,000 towards animals affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton and other natural disasters through their 'Most Vulnerable Pets' initiative. A couple people found their way over to the campaign already, including a Ravens fan https://givebutter.com/TGFMVP"
The initiative has managed to collect over $72,000 till now and has a goal of reaching $140,000.
Chris Godwin injury status
With 59 seconds remaining in Monday night's 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, wide receiver Chris Godwin was tackled by Roquan Smith. During the tackle, Godwin suffered a dislocated ankle, an injury so bad that the live broadcast chose not to show a replay.
Godwin left the field on a cart with his leg in an air cast as the crowd at Raymond James Stadium chanted his name. The 28-year-old was having a career season in the first seven weeks of the season. His 576 receiving yards put him second in the NFL behind Justin Jefferson.
NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X on Tuesday morning that Godwin will see a doctor to find out the severity of his injury. He is expected to have surgery to repair his dislocated ankle this week.
Godwin is in the final season of his current contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will be a free agent entering the 2025 NFL season. His future with the team is now up in the air after the injury.
To make matters worse for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wide receiver Mike Evans left the game in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and his status moving forward is also unknown.
