“Buffalo reminds me of Mike Tyson”- Colin Cowherd compares Bills to legendary boxer’s boom or bust ideology
The Buffalo Bills came away with a 34 - 31 victory in the Wild Card round of the playoffs over the Miami Dolphins. With the win, the Bills will advance to the Divisional round with the prospect of facing the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite Buffalo's victory, Colin Cowherd compared the team to that of boxing great Mike Tyson. On his show, "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," he noted that Buffalo lacked refinement but could deliver a devastating blow:
"I say Buffalo reminds me of Mike Tyson. They'll have a knockout punch always as long as Josh Allen's there, but lack nuance. They'll get sloppy and they're built to blow you out, not just for the later rounds.
"The more I watch this team, I wonder. So Josh Allen in college was unbelievably talented but wild and erratic and then in the NFL, similarly wildly gifted, jumping over people, huge downfield arm, and erratic."
Cowherd added his thoughts regarding New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who was Buffalo's offensive coordinator for four seasons:
"What Brian Daboll has now done with Daniel Jones is what he did with a much more talented Allen: he refined him, he got the accuracy up, and the mistakes down.
"But the longer Daboll is apart from Josh Allen, it's getting worse. He's regressing by the month: more picks, more fumbles, more mistakes."
In Daboll's final two seasons as the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator, the team finished in the top five in the NFL for total yards and total points.
The Bills have personified the Mike Tyson philosophy in the regular season
To Cowherd's point, they have blown out teams this season, winning games by 10 or more points on nine occasions. Four of those double-digit victories were by 20 points or more. However, seven of their games were decided by 10 points or fewer. Of those seven games, six were decided by three points or fewer and all three of their losses came within that margin.
The Bills' close win over the Dolphins in the Wild Card round marked the 10th game that was decided by three points or less. In the Divisional round, they'll face the Cincinnati Bengals in what might be another close game.
