"Bye, Eagles, bye" - Skip Bayless issues Cowboys warning to Philly
Skip Bayless never misses an opportunity to jump the gun and he issued the Eagles a Cowboys warning. The Philadelphia Eagles went into halftime against the New York Giants leading 28-0 and it looked they would head into the NFC Championship game. The winner of this game, of course, faces either the San Francisco 49ers or the Dallas Cowboys.
Anyone who has watched the NFL this season would have seen the Minnesota Vikings come back against the Indianapolis Colts for the largest comeback in league history. They would also have seen the Jacksonville Jaguars coming back from 27 points down to win against the Los Angeles Chargers during the AFC Wild Card round. So, reaching any conclusion at half-time could be called foolhardy, however apparent it might be.
The Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers have not even played yet. While the Cowboys can definitely make it past them, they are on the road and the 49ers are the form team in the league. Despite all these extenuating factors, Skip Bayless did not shy away from making a bold projection.
Not only did he predict the final outcome of this game, he called the results of the other Divisional Round game and the NFC Championship as well. He believes that the Cowboys will defeat the 49ers and meet the Eagles in the NFC Championship, where they will prevail to go on to the Super Bowl.
Does Skip Bayless' claim about the Cowboys against Philly have merit?
The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles are, of course, division rivals in the NFC East. In their last meeting this season, Dallas emerged victorious 40-34 above Philadelphia. However, during that meeting, the Eagles were missing Jalen Hurts as he was injured for that game.
In their meeting earlier in the year, they lost 26-17 when Philadelphia had their starting quarterback available. Hence, his confidence that Dallas is a better team and will send the Eagles packing might be a bit misplaced.
Before that, the Cowboys have to negotiate with the San Francisco 49ers on the road. 49ers finished with a better record in the regular season and look a more accomplished team. The Cowboys entered the playoffs in a slump and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, who had a losing record coming into the game. San Francisco will be a completely different beast. So, while Skip Bayless might eventually be proven right, the 49ers will have some plans to stop the prediction from coming to fruition.
