Byron Murphy turns to FBI over attempted extortion for $15,000 on Seahawks rookie
Seattle Seahawks rookie Byron Murphy was accused by a transsexual OnlyFans model of owing her $15,000. The model, whose X handle is @msmariahmonay, posted the details on the social media platform and also asked people to tag Murphy's team and fiancee.
After the post went viral, Murphy's agent Ron Slavin released a statement saying it was an extortion attempt. Slavin mentioned that the Texas product had no contact with the model and other young players in the league were also being targeted by a similar blackmail scheme.
The full statement read:
"Recently, my client Byron Murphy was the victim of an extortion attempt from a text conversation that began and ended online. He had no contact with this person.
"This blackmail scheme has targeted other young players in the league. We have notified the NFL, and turned the matter over to the FBI. Anyone involved in this scheme will be prosecuted."
Byron Murphy's agent mentioned that the case has been handed over to the FBI, and all the people involved in the alleged extortion and blackmail schemes will be prosecuted.
Fans on social media trolled Murphy after the post went viral, but it looks like the matter is under control with the FBI conducting an investigation.
Byron Murphy rookie season preview
The Seahawks drafted Byron Murphy with the 16th overall pick out of Texas in the 2024 NFL draft. The defensive end signed a four-year $16.08 rookie deal with the franchise, which included $8.5 million as a signing bonus. He should see the field quite a lot in his rookie season.
Murphy is listed behind Dre'Mont Jones and Leonard Williams in the Seahawks' depth chart, but he could become a starter in his rookie season. In three years at Texas, he had 32 solo tackles, 38 assists, 8.0 sacks, and 15.0 tackles for loss.
He registered an impressive 4.88 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Combine. The new Seahawks head coach, Mike Macdonald, will hope to bring the best out of the rookie and make him one of the best defensive linemen in the league.
