Caleb Williams breaks silence on his famous pink iPhone after going viral during offseason

In March earlier this year, before the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams took the internet by storm with his pink phone case, while attending University of Southern California's women’s basketball game against Kansas. He drew all kinds of reactions after going viral.

On Wednesday, Williams had time to explain the viral pink phone case and everything that happened. The Chicago Bears was a guest on Barstool's "Pardon My Take" podcast. When asked about the viral incident, Williams explained in detail about his pink iPhone.

"I actually broke my pink cell phone," Williams said. "On accident. I have to get a new one actually. Right now it's black. I'm trying to get a new pink one. The phone was pink though everything else was not pink. The phone was pink. Not the case. It's a pink iPhone. I'm trying to [get a new one]." [From 1:34:43 mark onwards]

Williams recalled an interaction with Barstools' Jack McGuire, who initially trolled the former USC QB on his pink phone, only to get trolled back again by Williams. The Bears QB explained that McGuire had responded to couple of his stuff since his high school days and so he was joking with him on X [formerly Twitter].

Caleb Williams speaks on rumors of rejecting Commanders prior to 2024 NFL Draft

Caleb Williams was long projected on many draft boards to be taken by the Chicago Bears. However there were rumors that the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner reportedly did not want to play for his hometown team Washington Commanders.

Speaking on the same podcast, Williams had his chance to clear up the Commanders rumors and also clarify all the other predraft rumors that were linked to him. Williams drew parallels with NBA's Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who rejected the Washington Wizards before joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016.

"I think within the NFL they’ve done a good job of whether it’s the owners and the coaches or things like that. I wasn’t against going home, as people said throughout the process. It would be like Kevin Durant. KD didn’t wanna go home but it wasn’t necessarily because of the team." [From 1:35:57 mark onwards]

Williams continued:

"It was more of because everybody in my family is there. It was more or less having to deal with all of that and make it a huge distraction for me and take away from the thing I love doing every single day."

Caleb Williams was eventually drafted by the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders eventually selected Jayden Daniels. Both the franchises have been pretty happy with their quarterbacks. The Bears kickoff their campaign against the Tennesssee Titans on 8 Sept, at Soldier field.
