Caleb Williams calls out Detroit Lions linebacker's scary hit during Thanksgiving showdown
Week 13's Thanksgiving Day schedule was certainly an interesting one. Caleb Williams' Chicago Bears kicked off the day by going up against the Detroit Lions and ran them close before eventually picking up their eight loss of the season in bizarre fashion.
In the third quarter, the Bears were handed a major scare when Lions linebacker Jack Campbell landed a low hit on Williams. Replays showed the rookie quarterback's knee buckling. Williams had to go to the medical tent but returned without missing an offensive snap. However, Williams made his feelings known about the hit from Campbell. In his post-game interview, Williams said:
"Knee’s fine. That play was funky. Just put it that way. I didn’t really appreciate the play.
"He just kind of dove straight at my knee. So I didn’t really get that. Definitely kind of frustrated about that one, just because you know, whatever. Knee’s good. Nothing wrong with it. Think I just got a bruise. But the play was funky.”
Williams clearly wasn't happy with the play but there was no indication that it was a dirty play. Replays showed the hit was clean. One option Williams had was to go out of bounds to avoid getting hit but the Bears will be thankful his injury doesn't appear to be too serious.
Bears game management in question after 3-point loss to Lions
The Bears showed up and showed out against the Lions, keeping pace with the NFC's top dogs all afternoon. With the game right down to the wire, the Bears faced a race against time to snap their losing streak.
They had a chance to win or tie the game on the final play and had a timeout at their disposal. However, head coach Matt Eberflus stopped short of calling a timeout. Williams eventually threw an incompletion on the final play, which meant the Bears had to settle for their sixth straight loss.
All in all, Williams' stats made for impressive reading. He went 20-of-39 for 256 yards and three touchdowns with a 97.8 passer rating.
