Caleb Williams shares 3-word reaction to teammate Keenan Allen setting record
Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears had another dismal outing on Sunday, as they suffered a 38-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium and fell to 4-9. While their performance on offense or defense wasn't much to write home about, wide receiver Keenan Allen had reason to celebrate.
The veteran became the 42nd player in NFL history to complete 11,000 receiving yards and is one of only six active players. The others are Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Travis Kelce and Davante Adams. Allen needed only 950 receptions to reach that mark, the fewest in NFL history.
Williams, who has thrown 47 passes to Allen for 471 yards and five touchdowns, was ecstatic about his teammate etching his name in the history books. The rookie quarterback shared a post congratulating Allen for his achievement on Instagram stories and captioned it:
"Forever a legend."
Caleb Williams stats: QB's arduous rookie year
As thrilled as Caleb Williams was for Keenan Allen and as proud as he's for playing a small role in helping Allen achieve the feat, it will do little to soothe the pain of a difficult rookie season for the quarterback.
The first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft had an efficient outing against the 49ers on Sunday, completing 17 of 23 passes for 134 passing yards and two touchdowns. However, Williams' bizarre fumble overshadowed his performance and perfectly encapsulated the Bears' season.
It has been a strenuous campaign for Williams and Co. The franchise fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after a dismal 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots, where the rookie quarterback was sacked nine times, which is 1/3rd of the total sacks they have had this season.
Coach Matt Eberflus was also shown the door after a bizarre gaffe in the dying seconds of the Bears' Thanksgiving Day loss to the Detroit Lions.
Given the challenging circumstances, Williams' numbers are commendable. He has thrown for 2,746 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns and has tossed only five interceptions. He also has only 405 rushing yards but is yet to find the endzone as a rusher.
Despite the rookie's best efforts, the Bears have lost seven straight. They could finish the year with 11 successive defeats, as they are scheduled to face the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers in their final four games of the season. A tough season is shaping up to finish in dire fashion for Caleb Williams and Co.
