Cam Newton comes to Angel Reese's defense as fans label WNBA star 'broke'
Cam Newton has never been shy about voicing his opinion online. That said, the former Patriots man came to the defense of WNBA rookie sensation Angel Reese as fans trolled her for a viral video.
In the video, Reese responded to men asking her to fly them to games. Traditionally, in sports, male athletes secure seats and flying privileges for their female friends. But now with the superstardom of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, men requested her to turn the tables.
However, Reese did not respond as expected. She said in her response video:
“I just wanna say one thing. The delusion to think anyone of us is flying you out, be for real.”
Fans quickly descended on Reese’s post, calling her broke. However, Cam Newton came to the defense of Angel Reese on his podcast, ‘4th and 1.'
“Hell, yes. I love that sh*t. I love it," said Newton. “You gotta stand on something. 'I am still a lady,' that's what she said. 'I still a lady. I still need to be courted.'”
Angel Reese has been under a microscope due to her on-court rivalry with Caitlin Clark. However, this viral video and Newton’s defense of her paints her in a different light.
Cam Newton has shown interest in the WNBA world
Apart from keeping up with Angel Reese, the former Panthers QB has talked about special privileges given to Caitlin Clark. Earlier this month, Newton called on Clark to act tough since she has the crown and women will do everything to dethrone her. Newton said on his podcast:
"How many times did we see Michael Jordan get his a-- whopped? … Nobody is above getting checked or being disliked. So, Caitlin, welcome to the big leagues. Everybody ain’t gonna like you.”
Apart from this, Cam Newton also advised LSU basketball sensation Flau’jae Johnson to focus on basketball and aim for the WNBA while staying away from her music career.
Newton hasn’t retired officially from football, however, he played his last game in 2021 during his second stint with the Panthers.
