Cam Newton drops ultimate American football 'Dream Team' for Olympics - "We coming for the Russians"

Cam Newton has given his ultimate American football dream team for the Olympics. On his 4th and 1 show, he mused about the hypothetical of seeing gridiron at the premier global sporting event.

He picked himself as the quarterback, obviously, and chose an eclectic mixture of other players. He chose both retired and active players. The focus was on the secondary and pass-rushers on defense and quarterback, wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs.

Cam Newton also added that they were going to come for the Russians and other countries, Spain being one he namechecked. The quarterback chalked up their chance of winning to the ability to trash talk:

"We coming for the Russians, Spain, everything. Whooping sh*t. They will hate to see us because we talk sh*t. USA! USA! USA!"

Cam Newton might get his chance in 2028 Olympics

While the Paris Olympics in 2024 won't have American football, there will be better news for gridiron fans four years later. The 2028 edition of the Summer Olympics is scheduled for Los Angeles and is expected to include flag football.

The quarterback hasn't played for a couple of seasons in the NFL, but will be only 39 when the games come to America. He might like to throw the hat in that particular ring if he wishes to be selected.

It's part of the NFL's strategy to expand the sport. By including flag football, they are ensuring that other countries that wish to send teams will have to invest in players learning the basics of American football. By doing so, they hope they can drum up the interest and make the NFL a global league and gridiron a worldwide sport.

The league is already investing in international games, with games in the UK now part of the international calendar, with countries like Germany and Brazil also hosting events in recent seasons or preparing to do so in short order.

Judging by Cam Newton's fantasy team for the Olympics, there are quite a few people who would like to see America showcase the sport, and the talented players who play it, in that international arena.

As Hall-of-Fame quarterback Steve Young said, NFL owners might struggle to hold back their players wanting to play in Los Angeles.
