Cam Newton questions Tyreek Hill's 99 Madden rating

EA Sports announced earlier this week that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is the lone 99-club member for wide receivers in Madden 25. Hill got the spot as the game's best overall receiver, edging the Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson by one rating point.

While Hill and Jefferson are widely viewed as the NFL's two best wide receivers, not everyone agrees with Madden's ratings (what else is new?). Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton spoke about Hill and Jefferson's ratings and sort of understands why Hill is a 99 and Jefferson isn't.

"The only reason why Tyreek Hill is 99 is because of speed. Duh," Newton said on "4th & 1 With Cam Newton."

Newton was then asked if he feels like Hill is the NFL's best overall receiver. He said that he thinks Hill is the most dangerous wide receiver while Jefferson is the most skillful.

"This is different elements, you gotta be mindful of that," Newton said (Timestamp: 37:12). "Most skillful receiver in NFL? No. The most dangerous receiver in the NFL? Yes. ... Justin Jefferson is skillful. He could do everything. ... The only reason Tyreek is the most dangerous receiver that this game pretty much, no, I can't say that, won't say that.
"In this modern day, dangerous, for sure. I can't say that. I apologize for what I was about to say."

Wide receiver may be the deepest position in the NFL, at least on offense. Each team has at least four active receivers on gameday (for the most part) which shows how many talented wideouts there are across the league.

While Tyreek Hill, Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb round out the top three highest-rated wide receivers, the rest of the list features some of the top names you'd expect to see and some guys who you think would be on the list, aren't.

Here are the top 10-rated wide receivers in Madden 25:

Tyreek Hill: 99 overall

Justin Jefferson: 98 overall

CeeDee Lamb: 96 overall

A.J. Brown: 95 overall

Amon-Ra St. Brown: 95 overall

Davante Adams: 94 overall

Ja'Marr Chase: 93 overall

Stefon Diggs: 92 overall

Brandon Aiyuk: 91 overall

Mike Evans: 90 overall

The biggest names outside of the top 10 are Amari Cooper, D.J. Moore and DeAndre Hopkins.

Cooper has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with inconsistent quarterback play on the Cleveland Browns.

Moore just became a top-10 highest-paid wide receiver this week after he set career-highs in receptions (96). yards (1,364) and receiving touchdowns (8) last season.

Hopkins averaged 14.1 yards per catch last season while surpassing 1,000 yards and scoring seven touchdowns with a rookie quarterback.
