Cam Newton says jury’s still out on Kirk Cousins’ $180,000,000 Falcons move

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton is no stranger to voicing his football opinions, especially about current quarterbacks. On his podcast, the "4th and 1 Show," Newton put three different quarterback tiers. He placed the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins in the first tier list, which he named, "You are our guy and nothing else matters but the postseason."

While Newton included Cousins in his top category, he has his doubts about the new Atlanta quarterback, saying:

“I’m not convinced that that’s his team yet.. He didn’t really do that [win consistently] in Minnesota.”

While Cam Newton has his reservations, the Falcons have signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract that includes $100 million guaranteed, after the athlete became a free agent this off-season. In his 12-year career, Cousins has a regular season record of 76-67-2 and has had a winning record as a starting quarterback in seven of those seasons. However, his postseason record is 1-3.

Cousins had one of the best seasons of his career in 2022 with the Vikings, going 13-4 as the starter and helping the team win the NFC North. This past season, he went 4-4 as the team's starter before going down for the season with a torn Achilles.

Cam Newton included many of the top quarterbacks in his QB tier list. The first quarterback he mentioned was Buffalo Bills' QB Josh Allen, saying he can go 8-8 this season, but all will be forgiven if he were to win a Super Bowl. He then put Baltimore Ravens' QB Lamar Jackson, stating that whether or not he wins another MVP, postseason success is what truly matters.

Newton then named three-time winning Super Bowl quarterback, Patrick Mahomes and concluded the list by listing Joe Burrow, Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford.
