Cardinals QB Kyler Murray joins forces with Call Of Duty franchise in major partnership
Kyler Murray was criticized for spending a lot of time playing video games (specifically Call of Duty) after signing his contract extension in 2022. Two years later, he announced his partnership with the successful video game franchise.
Murray announced the news while thanking "trolls" on Monday afternoon via X. This comes before the release of Black Ops 6, which will be available on Oct. 25.
"To the trolls who memed me into a bag, thank you! I’m officially launching my @CallofDuty partnership! #CODPartnership #TheReplacer #BlackOps6."
In the 2022 offseason, Murray signed a five-year $230.5 million contract extension that included $160 million guaranteed. Reports surfaced about a "homework clause" that required the QB to spend X amount of hours working on his craft and preparing away from practice.
Internet "trolls" then found evidence linking Murray's poor performances to weekends that the COD franchise had double XP points. This is where fans began to troll him.
Kyler Murray is off to a decent start in 2024
Kyler Murray hasn't played a full season since 2020.
In 2022, he tore his ACL towards the end of the season and missed a good chunk of the 2023 campaign. Returning from his ACL tear, Murray struggled as he threw for only 10 touchdowns in eight games and went 3-5.
So far this season, Murray has been solid.
He has completed 68.1 percent of his passes and has 972 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. His 66.4 QBR is sixth-best in the league. Additionally, he has 247 rushing yards, including a 50-yard touchdown run when he broke free in the Cardinals' Week 5 win against the San Francisco 49ers.
Murray is 2-3 as a starter but the Cardinals have played a tough schedule so far. They opened the season with a 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills, a team many view as one of the best in the league.
The Cards bounced back with a huge 41-10 blowout win against the LA Rams in Week 2. They then dropped their next two games to the Detroit Lions and the Washington Commanders — two more teams with winning records.
Desperate for a win, the Cardinals picked up a big divisional victory on Sunday against the 49ers, 24-23.
