CeeDee Lamb to receive under $33,000,000 with new contract as Cowboys edge closer to finalizing deal: Report
The new NFL season is just three weeks away, and CeeDee Lamb is still holding out to get a contract extension from the Dallas Cowboys. The star wide receiver is seeking top-of-the-market money, and the franchise has spent the entire offseason without agreeing on a deal.
As per a recent report from Dallas Morning News, Lamb and the Cowboys had a phone call related to contract negotiations before the team departed for their second preseason game.
The Cowboys are reportedly offering Lamb just under the $33 million mark annually in his new deal. It will place the 25-year-old wideout behind Justin Jefferson among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league.
Various reports have suggested that the Cowboys star doesn't want to be the highest-paid receiver in the league. As a result, Lamb could sign a new deal soon if the report from the Dallas Morning News about the contract's value is true.
Jefferson signed a four-year $140 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, and based on the annual average value (AAV), Lamb's deal could be around the four-year $130 million mark.
The Cowboys will kick off their season against the Cleveland Browns, and the franchise will hope that Lamb's contract situation is resolved by then. He is crucial to the team's success and has deserved the money he is seeking.
A look at CeeDee Lamb's importance to the Cowboys
The Cowboys drafted CeeDee Lamb with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he has exceeded all expectations and is one of the best wide receivers in the league.
Last season, he proved all his critics wrong and led the league in receiving. He had 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and scored 14 touchdowns in 17 games, averaging 13 yards per reception.
The Cowboys didn't make any moves to improve their offense in the offseason, and now everything depends on the duo of Dak Prescott and Lamb. The team could be in huge trouble if their star receiver misses games at the start of the season due to contract issues.
Nobody knows whether Prescott will be the Cowboys quarterback next year, but it would be foolish of the franchise if they don't sign CeeDee Lamb to an extension. The price of the brick is going up every month, and had the NFC East franchise signed their receiver to an extension earlier, they could have saved a lot of money.
