CFL Rumors: Tua Tagovailoa's brother nearing pro football deal as 2024 NFL Draft fails to come through

The family of Tua Tagovailoa is in for a turbulent offseason. The 2024 NFL Draft has passed, and the Miami Dolphins didn't make a bold move to take a quarterback, instead attacking the edge rusher position and sitting patiently with their franchise quarterback still waiting to sign a contract extension.

The recruitment days, though, left a sour taste in the family's mouth. That's because Tua's younger brother, Taulia Tagovailoa, who played for Alabama and Maryland during his collegiate career, was an undrafted draft pick and didn't sign with any team. But his professional career might be about to launch anyway.

According to reporter Arash Madani, Taulia Tagovailoa is close to joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from the Canadian Football League, the popular CFL. This would be the first team for Taulia in the pros, and plenty of players who starred in the CFL later went on to have successful NFL careers.

Taulia had a more than decent career at Maryland University, where he even became Big Ten's passing yards leader in his final game in the conference. He decided to play his senior season after skipping the 2023 NFL Draft, but things didn't turn out as expected for him.

Considering his older brother's problems with the Miami Dolphins, the family has had easier days.

The Tua Tagovailoa problem: Dolphins have a major decision to make with the quarterback

Tua is in the final year of his rookie contract, and this is the most important decision of Miami's offseason - even more than the draft. In his first four seasons, he showed plenty of flashes, but he was unable to show the most important thing to a quarterback: consistency.

The Dolphins can't just give up on Tua Tagovailoa, as they don't have better options at the moment. At the same time, they can't simply make him the highest-paid new quarterback in the league, even with the major salary cap increase that NFL teams weren't expecting.

Miami has a clear risk on its hands: compromising the salary cap without security in the most important position of the game. Don't be shocked by the outcome, whatever it is.
