Channing Crowder states JJ Watt will reconsider retirement with bizarre breastfeeding reference

JJ Watt got some advice from an unlikely source when it came to announcing his retirement from the NFL. Former NFL linebacker Channing Crowder was on First Take to talk about the news of Watt's retirement. The former Miami Dolphins player gave the former Arizona Cardinals defensive end some advice that referenced breastfeeding.

In October, Watt became a father for the first time when his wife Kealia Watt gave birth to their son Koa. Crowder noted that Watt might think twice about retirement, saying:

"I would say a lot of emotions then when you hold your baby at his first game and beautiful, then you get home and you find out what colic is and reflux is. You find out about that nighttime wake-up for the bottle."

Crowder added:

"You can't pump, your wife's pump, and now you got the baby. I think he might re-evaluate this retirement when he gets home with their newborn."

Prior to his advice on breastfeeding, Crowder spoke about how impressive the defensive end was throughout his career.

Crowder said:

"Just impressive watching him play in every kind of defense, you know? The defensive front, front seven guy, a four technique in a 4-3 defensive end, and a 4-3 for just everything he could do. He stood them inside linebackers up because he is just impressive."

Watt played the final home game of his career in Week 16 as the Cardinals hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Christmas Day. Kealia and Koa were on hand to watch him play.

For JJ Watt, it's the end of one of the more stellar careers for a defensive player in NFL history.

Is JJ Watt Hall of Fame-bound?

Watt was drafted 10th overall by the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft out of the University of Wisconsin. In just his second season in the league, he was the AP Defensive Player of the Year, leading the NFL with 20.5 sacks.

He led the NFL in sacks once more in the 2015-16 season with 17.5 sacks. In 10 seasons with the Houston Texans, he accumulated 172 tackles for a loss, 101 sacks, and 25 forced fumbles.

JJ Watt is the only player in Texans history to have over 100 career sacks with the team. He joined the Cardinals as a free agent ahead of the 2021-22 season. In 21 games with the Arizona Cardinals, Watt has 19 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

In all, he was a five-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro, and a three-time winner of the AP Defensive Player of the Year award. Only two other players have the distinction of winning it three times: defensive end Aaron Donald and Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Without question, JJ Watt will find himself wearing a gold jacket very soon.
