Chase Claypool on the move? Mike Florio claims DJ Moore trade leaves WR “on the outside”

After trading for DJ Moore, the Chicago Bears are suddenly at full capacity at wide receiver. Chase Claypool, Moore, and Darnell Mooney currently share the starting lineup for the team, but one analyst believes the boat is actually overcrowded and someone needs to be left behind.

The analyst Mike Florio via Sports Illustrated expressed the belief that the wide receiver had an uphill climb to rip away a spot on the roster over the long haul.

"Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio recently wrote that Claypool could be on the outside looking in on the Bears' long-term plans. The former second-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but with Moore and Darnell Mooney on the roster, it's unlikely he'll get a deal in Chicago."

Will the Bears cut ties with the receiver after 2023?

The wide receiver is no stranger to trades himself. Claypool was moved from Pittsburgh to Chicago for a second-round pick in 2023. When the move happened, many fans expected the team to get a much more explosive result, almost akin to when the Cowboys traded for Amari Cooper.

However, Chase Claypool faceplanted with the team, earning just 140 yards in seven games of action. Now, with only one year left on his deal, the wide receiver is likely feeling the pressure to impress this year.

Fans are hoping that with a full offseason to settle into the system, the wide receiver will look closer to how he looked in 2020 and 2021, when he finished with more than 800 yards.

Otherwise, with DJ Moore around, the team will be quick to lean into the former Panther and leave Claypool in the dust. Of course, with the draft looming and the Bears loaded with picks, a big-name rookie prospect could also be incoming to challenge the veteran. Will Chase Claypool be playing for the Bears in 2024?
