Chiefs HC Andy Reid delivers major Hollywood Brown injury update

Marquise Hollywood Brown signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. The 27-year-old wide receiver has played for the Arizona Cardinals for the last two seasons and now has an opportunity to contribute to the current Super Bowl champions.

Brown made his Chiefs debut a few days ago in the team's first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately, the Oklahoma product suffered an injury, and there are concerns about his availability for the start of the season.

In Brown's absence, Kadarius Toney, Justyn Ross and Skyy Moore are expected to get more reps in the preseason to have a shot at playing alongside Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

Marquise Brown suffered a dislocation of his sternoclavicular shoulder during Saturday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As per Andy Reid, the wideout didn't need surgery to repair his issue.

Tyreek Hill also suffered a similar injury in 2019, and it caused him to miss the four games in that season. Brown has missed eight games over the last two seasons due to these injuries:

  1. Thigh hamstring strain in 2022
  2. Pedal foot fracture in 2022
  3. Heel injury in 2023

The Chiefs will hope that the former Cardinals wide receiver makes a quick recovery as he is projected to have a big role on the team. It will be interesting to see if other players in his position will make the most of the opportunity handed to them by Brown's injury.

The severity of Hollywood Brown's injury is not known yet. But based on players who have suffered the same injury in the past, the Chiefs star is unlikely to play in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

However, he could be ready to play against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. As mentioned above, the Chiefs will rely on other players to help out Travis Kelce, Rice and Worthy during Brown's absence.

As for Patrick Mahomes, in the last two seasons, we have seen that he can make it work no matter who the receivers are. Even without Hollywood Brown, Mahomes is expected to put up big numbers for his team.
