Chiefs owner Clark Hunt makes opinion clear on Andy Reid's potential retirement
Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt doesn't anticipate that head coach Andy Reid will retire from coaching football anytime soon. Reid is a veteran coach and at 66 years old, he's been a head coach in the NFL for over a quarter of a decade, since 1999.
While there have been rumors the last few years, (specifially this offseason) of Reid's coaching career coming to an end soon, Hunt thinks Reid has a lot of gas left in the tank.
In a tweet sent out by ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler this afternoon, he said Hunt told ESPN that he has "no sense" Reid will retire anytime soon.
Reid has had a ton of success with the Chiefs since taking over as head coach in 2013. In the last 12 years, Reid has won three Super Bowls, eight division titles, and has 265 career wins as a head coach.
Andy Reid set a potential retirment timeline earlier this year
Andy Reid began his coaching career in 1982 with BYU as a graduate assistant. After coaching football at the collegiate level and NFL for over 40 years and with being age 66, even Reid knows he's closer to the end of his career than he is the beginning.
Reid joined former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel and NFL insider Dianna Russini's podcast "Scoop City" earlier this year and spoke about when he would possibly retire and if he has ever pondered retirement.
Reid said he stills enjoy doing what he is doing and with his contract ending at age 71, that could be a realstic time when he calls it a career.
Reid said:
"I enjoy doing what I'm doing. I know I'm on the bottom side of this thing, and not on the top side of it. So it's coming. But I don't know when it is. And it's a great place to coach and I've got good players. So I'll be 71 at the end of this contract. And that seems like really old. So we'll see where it all goes."
Nothing is set in stone, and it's always a little tougher predicting when a coach will retire compared to a player.
Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs are currently 7-0 and are the only undefeated team in the NFL. They hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC and are in first place in the AFC West.
Reid has a chance to make history this year by becoming the first head coach in NFL history to three-peat as Super Bowl champions.
