Chiefs safety Justin Reid lauds Harrison Butker for quick medical assistance to BJ Thompson post cardiac arrest: "He loves all of us"

Earlier this week on Thursday, June 6, Kansas City Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson had a seizure during a team meeting. He had to be rushed to the hospital. Thompson remained in stable condition but was unconscious for a night before waking back up and being responsive on early Friday afternoon.

During this scary episode at the team facility, kicker Harrison Butker rushed to alert the team training staff about Thompson, who then provided medical assistance.

Speaking to the media about the incident, Chiefs safety Justin Reid applauded Butker for assisting Thompson and reacting quickly to the emergency.

Reid said:

"Harrison's that guy. I mean, he loves all of us. And you know, we're family. This is so much deeper than just football. And yeah, I mean, we root for each other, and in a moment like that, you just have to call yourself into action. Harrison did that. And the trainers moved so quickly to be able to rescue BJ and helped make it happen."

While Harrison Butker has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons lately, he's been viewed as a big help in the handling of BJ Thompson's medical situation.

Kansas City Chiefs head trainer Rick Burkholder also spoke to the media yesterday about how the team handled the situation.

"When BJ had his seizure, Butker immediately ran towards the training room and grabbed Julie Frymer, David Glover, and then grabbed me. We went into the room and eventually Tiffany Morton and Evan Croft came in."

He added:

"With this facility, we have a doctor's office down the hall and as a team we tried to stabalize BJ and put him on the floor while he was still seizing and then he went into cardiac arrest. Our players, our security staff, everyone involved, our coaching staff, they were phenomenal in handling the crisis."

Thompson's agent, Chris Turnage provided a postive update on Friday afternoon and stated that Thompson woke up and was repsonsive.

Thompson was the team's fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in one game last season. He recorded two tackles in the team's 13-12 win against their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers.
