Chiefs TE Travis Kelce gets candid on challenges of going for historic 3-peat
Heading into the 2024 NFL season, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas Chiefs will have the chance to create history – to become the first team to ever win three consecutive Super Bowls. However, Kelce understands the challenges that come along the way.
On Tuesday, Travis Kelce appeared as a guest on the "Bussin' with The Boys" podcast, hosted by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. When asked about the chances of the Chiefs three-peating, Kelce briefly shed light on the challenges:
(from 35:08 mark onward)
"I think right now we got the focus and we got the team to be able to do it, yeah. You already know every year you got to restart that engine man. You got to rebuild it," Kelce said.
He is confident about the chances the Chiefs have, especially with the additions of star wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy:
"We got a lot of f**king fun pieces added. Hollywood Brown, seen him run around this offseason has been so f**king fun. Him and Pat have a have a connection immediately. Up top," Kelce added.
The tight end also spoke about how the Chiefs' offense has evolved over the years, from being reliant on former NFL running back Jamaal Charles, when the TE was drafted, to the point where everything runs through Patrick Mahomes:
"Coach Reid every single year has these like, note cards, just f**king plays. He's just cooking them up in that f**king office. It's been fun to like, see how the offense has grown throughout the years," Kelce said.
Travis Kelce hungry as ever as Chiefs chase 3-peat
Travis Kelce recently put retirement speculations to bed. He said he still has the same fire burning inside him and a major part of that is the opportunity to three-peat.
Speaking on the same podcast, Kelce said that the Chiefs have an opportunity to be one of the greatest dynasties with another Super Bowl win and that's been the primary motivational factor:
(From 37:11 mark onward)
"F **k yeah [still have the same fire]. I love that sh*t. I feel like the chance of having a three-peat, nobody gets that f**king chance. So it's like your desire to come into work every single day just kind of went up a notch."
He added:
"You want it more than you've like coming into the building in recent years, just because you have an opportunity to be one of the greatest if not the greatest, like dynasty franchise, three to five, six year run that's ever been."
Travis Kelce has been an integral part of this Kansas City Chiefs dynasty, with a first-ballot Hall of Fame resume. Potentially winning Super Bowl LVIII and three-peating could put Kelce, Mahomes and Co. in a class of their own.
