Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins disputes rumors of trolling Titans with viral MNF celebration
The Kansas City Chiefs appear unstoppable this year. They were made to sweat in an overtime win under the bright lights of primetime football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the Chiefs got the win regardless. They improved to 8–0 as the only undefeated team in the NFL. That 30–24 win came with recruit DeAndre Hopkins heavily involved in the offense, as he registered eight catches on nine targets for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
After one of those touchdowns, Hopkins pulled out a pretty curious celebration. He performed a dance from arguably the most popular football movie of all time: "Remember the Titans." Many fans at the time believed Hopkins was mocking his former team the Tennessee Titans. However, the playmaker released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, to refute that misconception.
"It was a shoutout to Tennessee," Hopkins tweeted on Tuesday over an ESPN post with his celebration.
"If you know me, you know it's nothing but love for Nashville. Ran [Carthon] and his crew are like family. Without them, I wouldn't be here."
Chiefs atop AFC on the back of DeAndre Hopkins' twin touchdowns
Travis Kelce was the main man on Monday night at Arrowhead, hauling in 14 of his 16 targets for 100 yards. Hopkins' two touchdowns were also a big contribution, especially after a slow debut against the Raiders in Week 9.
The Chiefs put their winning culture to good use after the Bucs hesitated during regular time, picking up their eighth straight win of the season. Travis Kelce's girlfriend Taylor Swift also enjoyed the win from the suite at Arrowhead last night.
With that win, the Chiefs will now turn their sights to the Week 10 matchup against the Denver Broncos, followed by a hotly-anticipated showdown with the Buffalo Bills.
It remains to be seen if the Chiefs make any more moves with the NFL Trade Deadline looming. A move for the New Orleans Saints' four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore appears unlikely to develop. However, The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini reported on her Scoop City podcast that the Chiefs are still hitting the phones to explore the market before the deadline, 4 p.m. ET.
