Chris Godwin's wife sends emotional message to Baker Mayfield, wife Emily after Bucs QB's thoughtful gesture
In Week 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost wide receiver Chris Godwin to a dislocated ankle. Not only does this hamper the team's chances of making playoffs, it also affects the overall morale of the team and their fanbase.
Godwin's teammate, quarterback Baker Mayfield, stepped it up this week, turning up in a No. 14 Godwin jersey in a show of support for his teammates and friends.
Mayfield walks straight ahead in the video, ready to tackle the day as the team continues to fight for a playoff spot.
Godwin's wife, Mariah DelPercio, was grateful to Mayfield and his wife Emily for showing them such love.
"That's love," Mariah wrote. "We love you [Baker Mayfield, Emily Mayfield]."
Emily, who shared the story, empathized with Mariah:
"We love yall. Your pain is our pain," she wrote.
Along with Godwin, the Bucs face another hurdle with wideout Mike Evans out due to a hamstring injury. His return, though unsure, has been marked for Week 12. Irrespective of the return date, the Bucs will have to work hard to secure a spot in the playoffs this season.
The playoffs might be a "best-case scenario" for Chris Godwin's return
On Monday, Godwin spoke about his return for the first time since he was injured in Week 7. As per the WR, speaking at his foundation's event, the playoffs might be the best-case scenario for him to return.
"I mean, I think that's best-case scenario, right? Like absolute best case. For all involved. Everything lines up. That's what you kind of aim for," Godwin said (via ESPN).
He added that this was a different surgery for him, and he needed to simply trust the people he was working with to help him get better.
"The biggest thing for me is make sure that it's secure, make sure that it's strong and stable, and I'm not at risk of reinjury. But there's a lot of stuff in the beginning that you can do to prepare yourself to make an acceleration later in the rehab process, just by doing some of the little things or little extra little things."
With a 4-4 record, the Bucs stand 2nd in the NFC South. They face the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 4 for Monday Night Football.
