Chris Russo goes on epic rant claiming Lamar Jackson doesn't deserve $230 million guaranteed deal

Lamar Jackson's contract extension negotiations have been in progress for a year. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback, who acts as his own agent and general manager Eric DeCosta are at a stalemate and unable to come to an agreement. Jackson is said to be looking to be the highest paid quarterback in the NFL and wants fully guaranteed money on his contract.

As the franchise tage window officially opened for NFL teams yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens could decide to take that route with their quarterback. On ESPN's "First Take" on Wednesday morning, Chris Russo said that he wouldn't give the quarterback that much money. He said that his injuries the past two seasons, when he didn't even finish out the regular season, as well as his playoff record are things to consider. Russo said:

"Absolutely not! He hasn't been able to finish out the last two seasons. I'm sorry, but he hasn't finished out the last two seasons. He got hurt two years ago. He got hurt this past year. He's won one playoff game. His quarterback rating into playoff games in which he has participated in is not good."

Russo continued by saying that he doesn't believe that the Baltimore Ravens will be able to win a Super Bowl with Jackson as their quarterback. He said that he wouldn't give him the biggest contract and instead would definitely use the franchise tag for the upcoming season:

"I'm not convinced you can win a Super Bowl with the way he plays the position and lasting 20 games. I'm not sure if you can do that. He hasn't shown he can do it so far. So to give him the most money of any quarterback in the NFL, which is what he's going to want... I'm not gonna give him the most money. So I would go franchise tag, if it was me."

NFL fans will be anxiously awaiting to see what comes of these contract negotiations between the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

How much money has QB Lamar Jackson turned down?

As the saga continues between Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, there have been questions as to how much money the 26-year-old quarterback is looking for in a contract extension.

It has been reported by ESPN that the Ravens quarterback turned down a five-year contract extension that was worth $230 million, with $133 million in guaranteed money.

“I think that’s fair that he gets more guaranteed dollars than a Kyler Murray or even a Russell Wilson.” https://t.co/fuF7hOLgra

While the $230 million is in the range that the quarterback is interested in, the fully guaranteed money is missing. If the Ravens decide to use the franchise tag on him, then he would be paid $45 million, which is the amount for quarterbacks on the tag this season.
