"They got a Bentley in the driveway and it's going to be fun till it breaks down" - NFL analyst highlights the downside of 49ers' trade for Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey was acquired by the San Francisco 49ers from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for multiple picks. The trade has bolstered their squad for a Super Bowl run, which they missed out on last season.
The addition of McCaffrey along with the presence of Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Elijah Mitchell has given quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo multiple weapons to go to. Although the decision to acquire McCaffrey was great, his injury record is something to be concerned about.
Nick Wright on First Things First highlighted the issues that the addition of Christian McCaffrey will bring to the 49ers.
"They got a Bentley in the driveway and it's going to be fun till it breaks down. But that bill is going to come. It doesn't make a lot of sense for a team that the whole idea of the Shanahan system is any running back."
"They now, in the last two drafts, the last few drafts, and now this, these picks will have dedicated to the running back position: one second, three thirds, a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth, plus about 14 million in cap space."
Nick Wright added:
"Listen, if they win the Super Bowl, it is worth it. If not, it's a disastrous overpay. That doesn't really make sense."
Christian McCaffrey has had a bad injury record, but there is no denying the fact that he is a game changer, and under Kyle Shanahan, he could become even better. The gameplan of the 49ers is to get the ball out of Jimmy Garoppolo's hands quickly, and the addition of a player like McCaffrey will help it.
Christian McCaffrey will provide a new dimension to the 49ers offense
Kyle Shanahan is one of the best coaches in the NFL, and with McCaffrey on his team, he could design an offensive scheme that has never been seen in the history of the game.
Everyone knows how well he utilized Deebo Samuel. Now with Christian McCaffrey playing alongside a player like Deebo Samuel, you can only pray for the other team's defense.
Although quarterback Trey Lance is out for the season due to an ankle injury, Garoppolo has done well so far to lead the team. The 49ers lost in the NFC Championship Game last season, and this year they could very well return to the Super Bowl, and might even win it.
The NFC isn't as strong this season as it has been in the past, and the 49ers do have a great chance with McCaffrey on their team. Whether or not he remains fit will be seen, but he has surely made this team a lot better.
