Christian McCaffrey's dad sends Derrick White a message as Celtics star joins Team USA as Kawhi Leonard's replacement
Christian McCaffrey's father, Ed McAffrey, made a name for himself in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. With the wide receiver's career-long career wrapped up and his son in the league, Ed wished the best to the new replacement on the Team USA basketball team roster.
Taking to Twitter/X on July 10, McCaffrey rooted for Colorado native Celtics star Derrick White as it was announced he would replace Kawhi Leonard on the roster.
"Homegrown CO kid in the red, white, and blue!!! Make us proud," he posted.
Despite winning the NBA championship last month, Derrick White appears to be back in the saddle. White damaged one of his front two teeth during the NBA Finals battle against the Dallas Mavericks.
McCaffrey's dad will be rooting for White's Team USA as they attempt to win the gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
Christian McCaffrey's dad set for busy sports day as Olympics basketball gold medal and 49ers share a same-day schedule
The basketball Olympics are set to end on the same day the 49ers play in front of fans for the first time of the year. As such, Christian McCaffrey's father is in line for a long day with the television to watch both events.
According to the Olympics' official website, the Men's gold medal game will be played on Saturday, August 10 at 3:30 PM EST. Not long after the game ends, the 49ers are set to play their first preseason game of the year at 7:00 PM EST.
As such, McCaffrey could go from watching Derrick White, Stephen Curry, and a team loaded with the best basketball stars in the United States to watching the 49ers. In other words, he could go from watching a team play in a championship to watching his son play their first game since the Super Bowl.
Of course, all of this assumes Team USA reaches the gold medal round of the event. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are locked into their starting time.
Will Ed McCaffrey have his day planned out on August 10? At this point, nothing is guaranteed, but many argue it should be a coin flip for the United States national basketball team. On top of that, will Christian McCaffrey play in his first preseason game? It could be either a day worth skipping or one filled to the brim with action.
