Christian McCaffrey's father reveals reason for RB's Germany trip as 49ers star battles Achilles tendinitis
Christian McCaffrey has been on the sideline this season due to Achilles tendinitis and the 49ers star is now seeking out opinions to get back on the field. He was a star player for San Francisco as they made the Super Bowl last season but he has not been able to contribute as the issue continues to fester.
The running back recently took a trip to Germany and people were left wondering if the situation has worsened. His father, Ed McCaffrey, was on the Ross Tucker Podcast and clarified that it was solely to check out leading experts in the world. Highlighting that when the only solution being proposed by his current team of doctors is to rest, McCaffrey senior said,
“He's [Christian McCaffrey] such a perfectionist. He wants everybody's opinion. ‘Is there anyone on the planet that can help me get back on the field quicker?' And so when the prescription was ‘you just have to rest and not do anything,' he sought out other opinions. ‘Who else has anything else going on in the world that can help me get back on the field quicker?'"
Ed McCaffrey also said that there has been an overload of information with people trying to help Christian McCaffrey alleviate his Achilles tendinitis. He said his phone was blowing up and it was even more for his son, noting,
“And one of the problems you have is, Ross, my phone blew up. ‘Hey, here's stuff you can eat to help with your tendinitis. Here's treatments you can get. Here's a place you can go.' And you know if my phone blew up, I know his phone was blowing up. So he has to decipher between all the information he's getting. Which is what he did, right?”
Christian McCaffrey might not follow Achilles tendinitis treatment from Germany
Even though Christian McCaffrey went to Germany, Ed McCaffrey said that was to get an opinion and that might not be what the player eventually ends up doing. He clarified that this is just about getting an opinion, saying,
"He trusts his 49ers training staff but when the prescription is to rest, he is going to go out and get professional opinion from people around the world. And then most of it, he does not follow up on, he is like, I gotta pick between all the stuff I'm being told."
Christian McCaffrey's father also confirmed that the star running back trusts his training staff at the 49ers and he is following their advice to rest while also seeking out opinions that will allow him to return to the field at the earliest.
