Cole Beasley takes issue with Bills sponsoring National Gay Flag Football League - "But why?"
Cole Beasley has spent a lot of his years with the Buffalo Bills, however, he was perplexed to find out that his former team will be sponsoring the National Gay Flag Football League to launch in Buffalo. On Tuesday, the Bills took to social media to announce their partnership with NGFFL.
This is a non-profit sports league started in 2002 and boasts over 250 teams in 26 leagues across the US, and the Bills are bringing it to Buffalo as well. They posted on Instagram:
“We’re proud to support the National Gay Flag Football League with a sponsorship to launch a league in Buffalo!”
However, their former WR, Cole Beasley, seemed confused by this decision and voiced it on X (previously Twitter) in a news post regarding the Bills’ decision.
“But why?” wrote Cole Beasley.
The NGFFL plays according to the standard flag football rules and incorporates some of the aspects of college football. As per the New York Times, the leagues in 2011 capped the number of heterosexual players on a team’s roster to merely 20%.
Which other teams apart from Cole Beasley's Bills have endorsed the National Gay Flag Football League?
As per the NGFFL’s website, the Buffalo Bills lead the charge in sponsoring the LGBTQ+ initiative. However, it is not the first NFL franchise to lend a helping hand to the league over the last two decades.
“The Buffalo Bills join other supportive NFL teams like the New England Patriots, Giants, Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bears, Commanders, and Seahawks in making our growing league even more inclusive," the NGFFL website states.
The Buffalo Bills have always been on top of social causes in the contemporary setting of the US and have set an example by taking a step further. The move comes in sync with the annual Pride Month of June.
