Colin Cowherd claims Broncos’ Russell Wilson situation is a powder keg – “You add a match to that thing, it would blow up”
Russell Wilson was part of a blockbuster trade in the offseason that saw him leave the Seattle Seahawks and join the Denver Broncos. Many expected this move by Denver to make them Super Bowl contenders, but that hasn't been the case so far.
Wilson has struggled massively and a part of it has been due to the questionable coaching of Nathaniel Hackett. Following the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Broncos are now 2-4 and are on pace to finish last in the AFC West.
Colin Cowherd is very worried about the Broncos and Russell Wilson. He believes that changes need to be made, or else this talented team will blow up. Here's what he said about the situation in Denver on the Herd with Colin Cowherd:
"The difference the gap between Herbert and Russell Wilson was on display last night. Completely on display. And the other big problem for Denver is Herbert doesn't make any money. He literally doesn't want to be in commercials. He's a team guy - quiet."
Cowherd added:
"And here's Russell on a million commercials seeking fame pitching reality shows most highly paid guy in the room. Denver's locker room. I mean, you add a match to that thing right now that it would blow up."
Denver's defense has been magnificent this season, but their offense has let them down. Wilson has been a big disappointment, and it remains to be seen when the Broncos front office will part ways with Nathaniel Hackett. This is far more likely than moving on from Wilson.
Colin Cowherd urges the Broncos to draft a quarterback next year despite having Russell Wilson
Colin Cowherd is a big supporter of Russell Wilson, but he urged the franchise to draft a quarterback next year. The Broncos do have a third-round pick, and they'll need to get lucky to get a good quarterback. Here's what Cowherd said:
"The other thing that you have to strongly consider and it sounds weird, because I love Russell, is they gave up their first and second round pick. They have a third round pick, draft a quarterback."
Cowherd continued:
"Can you find a Bailey Zappe? Can you find a Dak? Russell was a third-round pick. Can you go find a Kirk Cousins, he was a fourth-round pick. You have to roll the dice. There's no way out of this."
Many teams have gotten lucky getting a quarterback late in the draft, and the Broncos will hope to do the same. If Russell Wilson doesn't hit form by the end of the season, there could be serious problems for him and the Broncos.
