Could Jayden Daniels play this week? Dan Quinn drops major update for Commanders QB

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been a sensation and is the favorite to win Rookie of the Year. He's led the Commanders to a 5-2 start for first place in the NFC East division.

While he's had a hot start this season, the Commanders could be in danger of being without Daniels this Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Daniels left last Sunday's 40-7 victory against the Carolina Panthers in the first half after landing on his chest, resulting in a rib injury. Daniels never returned as backup quarterback Marcus Mariota finished the game.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport delivered not-so-positive news about Daniels' health heading into Week 8. Per Rapoport, Coach Quinn told reporters Daniels will not practice today.

"#Commanders coach Dan Quinn tells reporters that QB Jayden Daniels will not practice today because of the injury to his ribs. Marcus Mariota will talk to reporters and take first-team reps in practice. Appears to be trending toward Mariota getting to the start on Sunday," Rapoport tweeted.

It sounds like we may not get to see the No. 1 overall pick (Caleb Williams) face off against the No. 2 overall pick (Daniels) this Sunday when the two teams meet.

Jayden Daniels is off to a hot start in 2024. Not many people thought the Washington Commanders would be 5-2. A large part of their success is the emergence of Daniels.

Daniels' stats are impressive for a rookie. He's completed 75.6 percent of his passes for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. He's also rushed for 372 yards and four touchdowns.

Daniels has been nominated as the Rookie of the Week five times this season and was the Offensive Rookie of the Month in September. He set an NFL record for the highest completion percentage in a single game by a rookie, completing 91.3% of passes against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3.

It would be a huge blow if Daniels were to miss significant time with his injury, but as of now, it sounds like it is a week-to-week injury.
