Could Jayden Daniels start Week 1 against Buccaneers? Commanders HC Dan Quinn weighs in

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels could be in line to start Week 1 of the NFL season. Although the news hasn't been confirmed, the Washington Commanders' head coach, Dan Quinn, spoke with Kay Adams and shared how pleased he is with Daniels thus far.

"What's keeping you from naming him the starter? Usually that's something you, because you want the humility part of it. What is he trying to earn here?" Adams asked Quinn on Up & Adams.

Quinn replied:

"I think what we're trying to do for everybody is just make sure we're gonna make competition the theme and all that we're going to do. And so for him it's not just competing against the other person. It's like his past self can I raise it again? So he's playing the position Excellent. Not just throwing it in and out of checks, protections run game, so he's really off to a great start get out."

Quinn may not have confirmed Daniels as the starter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1. However, he didn't deny it either.

Jayden Daniels "poised and working hard" for Week 1 starting spot

The Washington Commanders selected quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Daniels has veteran offensive weapons around him that should help the rookie quarterback's first NFL season a bit easier.

On Wednesday, running back Brian Robinson Jr. told Sports Illustrated that he was impressed with what he had seen from Daniels so far. Robinson Jr. called Daniels a 'hard worker' and said that he has a great work ethic every day.

“He’s just being where his feet at. He's poised, he's a hard worker. ... He's come in here, he's gotten better. So, we expect him to continue to take those steps leading into week one and I'm very excited for him going to his rookie season,” Robinson Jr. said.

Brian Robinson Jr. also expressed how excited he is for Jayden Daniels to make his NFL debut this season.
