Cowboys' Dak Prescott leaves door open to join another team amid contract standoff - "That maybe a reality for me"

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the 2024 NFL training camp without a new contract. He is expecting a long-term deal and there have been questions about his future in Dallas post this season.

Speaking to reporters after the Cowboys training camp, Prescott had an interesting answer when asked about his contract. He channeled his inner Marshawn Lynch in giving an ambiguous update on where the two parties stand.

"I’m just here so I don’t get fined," Prescott said. ... "Honestly, I'm not into those talks anymore. They know that. I've told you guys once this thing kicks off, I'm gonna do what I can to control my game, my effort to help this team win. And the people who we pay to make those decisions and deals we'll negotiate."

Prescott continued, explaining that while he wants to play for the Cowboys long-term, he's leaving the door open to join another team in the future.

"I'm gonna say, I want to be here, but you know, and you look up all the great quarterbacks I've watched, played for other teams. So my point in saying that is, that's not something to fear. That may be a reality for me one day. May not be my decision."

Jerry Jones has a different view on Dak Prescott's future with the Cowboys

Earlier today, the Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke to reporters at the training camp. He said that he doesn't believe 2024 will be Dak Prescott's last year with the Cowboys.

"Just to be very specific, I do not think that this will be his last year with Cowboys at all. Am I being psychotic relative to my mirror? No. It's pretty clear I think. I won't to say it if it hadn't been clear of how much we appreciate what Dak Prescott has meant to this team in a positive way, and that players do play better when he's out there. He does make his teammates play at a higher level."

Dak Prescott will be playing the 2024 NFL season in the final year of his four-year 160 million contract. He finished second in MVP voting last season, throwing for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions with a passer rating of 105.9.

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys cannot afford to let Prescott walk away next year, given he's been one of the best QBs in the league and there'll be plenty of teams waiting to land him as their signal caller.
