Cowboys fans lash out at $33,500,000 CeeDee Lamb rumor

Cowboys fans will be glad to see the back of the CeeDee Lamb saga, as their top wide receiver and the franchise are engaged in a brutal contract negotiation that shows no signs of concluding soon. And what is not helping are the rumors that keep cropping up from time to time.

CeeDee Lamb is the primary weapon in the Cowboys offense and wants to be paid accordingly. Justin Jefferson has reset the market in 2024 with his blockbuster $140 million contract over four years, which pays $35 million on average annually. The Dallas wide receiver wants something close to that figure and it is not immediately clear what that figure will be.

But others have not stopped the lack of information from giving 'breaking news' knowing that the ultimate value is going to be something close to that number. On X, a handle @prettyrickey213, said:

"As the NFL world waits on the Brandon Aiyuk situation, Rickey can confirm the Cowboys have offered CeeDee Lamb a four year contract worth $33.5 million per year. I would be surprised if this isn't resolved soon."

Whatever its purpose was, or whether or not it was the truth, it certainly set the cat amongst the pigeons. Cowboys fans were left fuming by the continuing speculation, posting their own responses on X. Some pointed to his lack of reliability in previous posts. Others called him a clown. Here are some of those reactions.

Others were a bit more polite but the sentiment remained overwhelmingly negative, showing the frustration not just with the poster but how long the contract negotiations with CeeDee Lamb are taking.

"But can I trust you..!?"
"I’m tired Rickey"
"Right... just like the last time..."

CeeDee Lamb's contract negotiation with Cowboys points to Justin Jefferson's outsized effect

The preseason has already begun and the new season will be beginning in less than a month. Yet CeeDee Lamb is just one of the top receivers struggling to sign a contract with his team. Just like the Cowboys, the 49ers are struggling to nail down Brandon Aiyuk. Even as trade proposals are being floated, none of them are coming to pass.

It seems as if teams had planned their salary cap allocation based on the old market but Justin Jefferson has completely blown that out of the water. And even as teams struggle to get their stars to sign, they are holding firm because they see that other teams are not willing to go as far as the Vikings did.

With a rookie wide receiver as the potential starter, Minnesota could bank on their biggest star but that is not a luxury the Cowboys have. They still need to pay Dak Prescott, to say nothing about Micah Parsons' who will be up next season if not this.

CeeDee Lamb's contract could ultimately be completed very close to the 2024 regular season's beginning when leaving the existing money on the table would become an unpalatable option. Until then fans will be left frustrated with new rumors coming out every day trying to milk the situation.
