Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy fires back at critics over team's playoff struggles
Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has some thoughts about critics of his team and their lack of success in the playoffs. On Monday afternoon, he was asked by reporters about the Cowboys' ability to win games in December and January.
As reported by The Athletic's Jon Machota, McCarthy said that everyone continues to criticize and mention the playoffs. He added that he is more concerned with winning every week and that winning 12 games or more in the NFL is not an easy task.
"We keep talking about playoffs and things like that but I don't know when the hell it became easy to win 12 games in a season. So we really got to get back to winning week in and week out," McCarthy said.
Mike McCarthy has made it clear that he is more concerned about making sure his team is prepared each week. The Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East division title last year and have finished the last two seasons with a 12-5 record.
Mike McCarthy relived the Dallas Cowboys will get CeeDee Lamb back
The Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb finally agreed to terms on a contract extension on Monday afternoon. Lamb will now be the highest-paid wide receiver in the history of the game with a four-year deal worth $136 million.
After Lamb signed, Mike McCarthy is pleased that he is returning to the team after a training camp holdout.
"I think we’re all relieved," McCarthy said via D210SPORTS.
He then continued by talking about the team's game plan with Lamb back in the lineup:
"The schedule we have for the week fits into a ramp-up mode. We do have to be smart with him, and that's our plan."
Although the Dallas Cowboys are excited to get their wide receiver back in action, they will have to find the right way to work him into the fold to not overwork him. Lamb hasn't participated in training camp nor played in preseason games so the workload could be a concern in the first few weeks.
