Mike McCarthy makes big admission about Odell Beckham Jr.

Could Odell Beckham Jr. be on his way to the Cowboys? The player himself recently named Dallas as one of four teams in an interview with Complex Sports. While the 30-year-old didn't actually name those as the final four, that is the conclusion many have jumped to.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy fronted the media and gave his thoughts on his team potentially acquiring the talented receiver.

McCarthy said, via si.com:

“In particular to Odell, I’ve always been a huge fan of his. From Ben McAdoo, Joe Whitt [Jr.], all the guys between that I’ve worked with from the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns, everybody has nothing but great things to say about him."
#Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said, “we really love our receiver group.” But with free agent WR Odell Beckham, “I’ve always been a huge fan of his. …I’ve just heard so many excellent, excellent things about him.” #DallasCowboys

McCarthy added:

"Obviously I’ve always been so impressed with his football playing ability, but I’ve just heard so many excellent, excellent things about him over the years. I think those are conversations for the future. Right now, we’re focused on our guys.”

McCarthy can't exactly say much more than that. If fans were hoping for the head coach to come out and campaign to get the receiver, they were disappointed. With still so much water to go under the bridge, we will hopefully know more soon about Beckham Jr.'s next move.

Would Odell Beckham Jr. help the Cowboys?

Without a doubt. Dallas is averaging 22.9 points per game (ranked 14th). Adding the 30-year-old would give them an extra boost. With CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Dalton Schultz, Noah Brown and running backs in Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, Dallas has weapons.

But none are of the caliber of Beckham. The Cowboys currently sit at 6-2 on the season and are trying to chase the 8-0 Philadelphia Eagles, while also trying to bring a Lombardi trophy back to AT&T Stadium for the first time since the 1990's.

If the 30-year-old chooses Dallas, it would present a huge coup. On the other hand, what kind of money is Odell Beckham Jr. wanting? Michael Gallup-type money from all accounts.

Whether Jerry Jones would want to give that kind of money to a player coming off his second ACL injury is unknown. But if he wants to go all in for the year, he might have to.

Having a player like Beckham Jr. would send Cowboys fans into raputures and give them a huge boost going into the second half of the year.

But they aren't the only team interested.
