Cowboys icon Michael Irvin baffled over Davante Adams-Antonio Pierce's fall out amid Raiders' WR's rumored exit
Davante Adams' time with the Las Vegas Raiders is seemingly coming to a close as the wide receiver officially asked the team to trade him and the franchise is open to parting with the superstar. The veteran missed the Raiders' Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns with a hamstring injury but was on the sidelines to cheer for them.
Head coach Antonio Pierce hasn't publicly addressed the reports about Adams' desire to leave the Raiders but he reportedly liked an Instagram post suggesting that the wide receiver had played his last snap for the franchise. When "Up and Adams" show host Kay Adams asked the superstar about Pierce's gaffe he claimed he hadn't spoken to him.
His response left Hall of Famer Michael Irvin astonished. The Dallas Cowboys icon found it difficult to digest that the two were no longer on talking terms after Adams vouched for Pierce to get the job. On FS1's "Speak", Irvin said:
"I'm shocked they [Davante Adams and Antonio Pierce] haven't had a conversation... Just a minute ago, they were all fighting for Coach Pierce to get their job. They wanted to be there. He wanted to be there. So this is a fast turn...
"The conversation not being had between those two is hard for me to fathom and hard for me to understand, and that's the part that kind of makes me shake my head to it all," he added.
Davante Adams Trade: Michael Irvin on board with team and WR parting ways
While Irvin is disappointed about Pierce and Adams' lack of communication, he believes the Raiders being open to moving the wide receiver is the correct call.
"I understand from a business standpoint what the Raiders are saying and what the Raiders are trying to do, because they are like, 'Hey, we don't, we don't believe we're going anywhere with this, and you're our best asset to get asset back.' So I understand it from a business standpoint," Irvin said.
Adams was heavily linked with a move to the New York Jets in the offseason, which would've reunited him with former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers. At the time, his agents downplayed the rumors and dubbed the reports baseless.
