Cowboys legend Michael Irvin raises issue with Aaron Rodgers’ “smoking weed retreat” as Jets slide to 2-6 record
Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin has taken aim at Aaron Rodgers as the New York Jets are off to a 2-6 start. The Jets suffered a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, seemingly ending their playoff hopes.
New York has now lost five straight games after starting the year 2-1. Following the lackluster loss, Irvin spoke on IT IS WHAT IT IS" podcast and took aim at Rodgers for his lackluster start to the year.
“He goes on a retreat every year where he makes peace in the dark. There’s ayahuasca. I just think it’s another form of smoking weed retreat," Irvin said.
As Irvin pointed out, Rodgers is known for taking retreats, including a darkness retreat before the season. He also missed OTAs to travel to Egypt, which frustrated some fans, especially after the team's disappointing start.
Rodgers has thrown for 1,896 yards, 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season.
Aaron Rodgers is frustrated with the Jets' start
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets were expected to compete for a Super Bowl this season, but now it's unlikely the Jets will even make the playoffs.
Following the loss to the New England Patriots, Rodgers said the league is hard to win in, but he says he is frustrated with the team's performances.
"The NFL is hard to win, hard to ... really make it difficult on yourself. You know, offensively, we can't worry about what else happens. We got to be efficient. You know, we got to make the most of the opportunity," Aaron Rodgers said, via the team website.
The Jets' playoff odds are now +450, which implies just an 18.2% chance. Following the loss, New York interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said he was hurt with the team's loss to the Patriots.
"I'm pissed. They're pissed. I'm hurt. They're, they're hurt," Ulbrich said. "We are not executing in critical moments, especially down the stretch right there. We had opportunities to win this game. Should have won this game, and we do so give credit to the Patriots. It took advantage of a team that didn't execute as well as they can."
The Jets will return to the field on Thursday night against the Houston Texans.
